German Field Experience

Travel has always been an important part of creating understanding and empathy beyond your immediate surroundings. Travel can put you in uncomfortable situations forcing you to stretch your understanding of a place, its people, and customs.  I have always loved the feeling of being in a new place, either close to or far from home. There is so much to explore, stories to discover, and new visuals to soak in.

Connecting with others during travel can provide a wonderful opportunity for personal and professional growth.  As part of the Fulbright TGC experience, we will be joining classrooms in our host country.

Guiding Questions

How could the inclusion of the fine and visual arts enhance core curriculum in a German school at various grade levels?
After speaking with a German teacher, I was surprised to learn that many elective courses offered in the United States are not part of the official curriculum in Germany.  Instead, they are parts of clubs or classes taken outside of the normal school day.  I would like to investigate methods of including some amount of visual arts into core classes.

What impact has the current Ukrainian invasion, or other global conflicts, affect

schooling?

What are the polices, both official and unofficial, for helping new students feel

welcome, integrated, and a part of the school?
